The Full Story, The creation of our new Bjj Academy. 

On 29th March 2023 we became registered as Tribal MMA/ Rocha Bjj as an academy to enter Bjj competitions. Prior to making the decision to combine with Rocha Bjj we were formerly under the banner of Checkmat Sunshine Coast. We were extremely excited to welcome back Professor Carlos Rocha Rocha a highly experience Bjj instructor and Red Belt in Judo. With Professor returning to Tribal MMA we made the decision to create our new team for Bjj competitions and we are pleased that this opportunity to form our own team for bjj competitions will be a new game breaker for our set up. We have been operating as a MMA Gym for about 8 years so this is a new opportunity to promote our set up when competing in Bjj competitions under our new team set up for future Bjj Competitions.  Our grading system will be in compliance of current Bjj grading syllabus. Required techniques, positions and live drills will be shown during classes by our instructors. As students progress and demonstrate progression then white belts through to Black Belt will be assessed. Focusing on submissions, takedowns, chokes, mount control, side control, sweeps from the bottom and standing. Escapes from side control, from the bottom and and various positions the instructor deems necessary. The core principles will be covered in Bjj and appropriate etiquette will be monitored. Grading for Junior students will be in compliance with the coloured belts system  White, Grey, Yellows, Orange, Green for Bjj. Grading will be conducted with the Professor deems necessary and looking for evidence of competency via training and live rolls, competition as well as consistent training.
